Interviewing My Character: Silas Arnett
Happy New Year!
Yeah I know, I’m like 12 days late but between being in the writing cave with Caesar and tackling my massive to do list, time got the best of me. Anyway, to celebrate and promote the pre-order of my special edition omnibus of The Dark Life of Silas duet, I thought it would be fun to interview Silas (PLEASE don’t tell Caesar. I’m not in the mood for his bitching about the favoritism Silas gets. Seriously! 🙄😑)! Anyway, enjoy this little moment I had with my character and witness my temporary moment of delusion to even do this in the first place. 🤭
Tori: Hey Silas! Thank you for looks at notecard “taking a moment out of your busy schedule to talk to me” despite the fact that I created you and said schedule. Was that really necessary? 🙄
Silas: Anything I request is always necessary but I’ll humor you for now, Creator. Thanks for having me. Let’s get on with this, as I have other things to do.
Tori: 😒🙄Anyway, I want to ask you some questions because I think the readers kind of miss you. They’re always hounding me about whether or not you’ll get another book so I thought I would be fun to do this interview with you. Are you up for it?
Silas: I’m here, aren’t I?
Tori: scowls SOOOO, first question: How’s life with Nova and the new baby? We all saw in your list of betrayals that you were upset about the fact that the baby isn’t showing psychopathic tendencies yet, which reminds me—that’s kind of stupid to expect of a baby. You know that right? Syrus can’t even talk yet; what psychopathic behaviors are you expecting from him when he’s not walking or talking? For him to gnaw off Nova’s nipple with his gums or something? 🤨
Silas: Creator, let’s not ask idiotic questions. 🙄😒 Do you think I would seriously expect a baby to be a psychopath? It was a joke; you remember what those are, yes?
Tori: A joke, from a non-joking sociopathic assh—you know what, let’s just move on. Life with Nova and the baby. How is it?
Silas: shrugs It’s as expected. I got what I wanted in the end and as long as Nova doesn’t do anything stupid, she’s safe.
Tori: Do you guys see actual love in the future? At least whatever is realistic for you, I mean.
Silas: From me? No. That isn’t a desire or ability I have. Nova simply serves a purpose and as long as she serves that purpose well, things are comfortable as they are. I’m sure time will ultimately dictate what happens as Syrus gets older but everything is still fairly new as we adjust as parents and all that.
Tori: Well, speaking of Nova, I wanted to ask you one particular thing that seems to be an ongoing conversation piece with readers. Many people who read A Wife for Silas feels as if you’d changed in An Heir for Silas. In fact, they were disappointed in how the book ended as well as the fact that you weren’t as brutal to Nova as you were with Lia. Do you want to give any insight into why that is?
Silas: Is it not obvious?
Tori: Obviously not, genius, or I wouldn’t be asking. 😒
Silas: deep sigh 🙄 Lia and Nova are two different women who came into my possession through two different circumstances. Lia was a literal criminal; her time with me was to serve a prison sentence. Her day was structured as it would be had she been in prison. For majority of the day, she was locked in her room, which would be considered being on lockdown in a cell in prison. She’d only come out for exercise (yard/rec time), meals, and office hours (visiting hours). Her entire existence in my world was a punishment, so yes, every dime that bitch stole from me was paid back in literal blood, sweat, and tears. There was nowhere for Lia to go or run off to, as she was my literal prisoner. Nova, on the other hand, was there on her own free will as a sugar baby. I knew that I wanted her specifically to give me an heir, so I’d assume that it wouldn’t make sense for me to do the same thing I did to an imprisoned woman to a free woman and think she’d want to willingly stick around. With her ex boyfriend being a cop that was stalking her and her being seen in public with me, what sense would it make for me to do the same things to her that I did to Lia? Nova wasn’t my prisoner and she wasn’t being punished. I’m not sure why that’s a hard concept to grasp. 🤨
Tori: Don’t get your nutsack in a twist, sheesh. It’s not that it’s a hard concept to grasp; people were just a little disappointed that you weren’t as dark as you were in the first book is all.
Silas: Why? For them to be upset that I was turning my brutality against a pregnant woman? They would’ve been upset either way so what difference does it make?
Tori: …….fair. Next question: If you’re not capable of falling in or being in love like regular people are, why did An Heir for Silas end the way that it did with you and Nova? I don’t want to be specific because it might be a spoiler, but you know what I’m talking about.
Silas: Convenience.
Tori: …..AND?! I know good and goddamn well this isn’t just a one-worded answer. 🙄
Silas: grumbles For fuck’s sake. It was only the fact that I didn’t have to pretend with her. After that first bad night we had, she saw who I was and I didn’t realize how…freeing it could be to be with someone that I didn’t have to hide from. Because she knew who I was and how to deal with that based on her own past experiences, it became a means of convenience where I could have my cake and eat it too without having to wear masks that didn’t fit me. Besides, I’m sure everyone saw how that failed acting coach fuckery went, so it was nice that I didn’t have to resort to do things that weren’t natural to me.
Tori: That’s understandable, I guess. Another thing that has been a lot of talk with readers is that they don’t think you deserved the ending you got after everything you’ve done. And honestly? Even as the creator, I can kind of agree with them. You did some REALLY heinous shit, dude. Sometimes I re-read it and still can’t believe I wrote something like that, holy shit. What do you have to say about that?
Silas: When have I ever been concerned with what someone thinks I deserve? 🤨
Tori: Lord, just humor me, Silas. 🙄 It’s a valid question and a response would be nice.
Silas: The ending I received was the ending I was going to always get. The whole point of this journey was to obtain a wife who would give me a male heir. If things would’ve worked out with Lia, the result would’ve been the same. I would’ve married her and she would’ve given me a male heir. Again, I don’t understand where the confusion or disappointment comes from when the goal was made crystal clear from the beginning.
Tori: Well, people can rightfully think that you didn’t deserve a happy for now. You did a lot of bad things in your duet so I think their feelings are valid.
Silas: Would they have rather I killed her? 🤨 Besides, I don’t see it as a “happy for now.” It’s simply that my objective was complete and I got what I wanted. Nova’s reason to stay had nothing to do with any feelings she had towards me. People are looking at this with an extremely superficial view and think that getting [redacted] means that we’re off living in a loving fairytale ending. That isn’t realistic for us and considering what she went through with her mother, I don’t think her feelings will really change either. As I said before, this is all out of convenience that we both benefit from. Nothing more, nothing less.
Tori: Well, thanks for clarifying. And one last question: do you have anything you want to say to your fans? There are plenty of people who absolutely despise you but there are just as many who love the hell out of you too. Anything you want to say to them?
Silas: shrugs Good on them for having good taste.
Tor: Be fucking serious, Silas. 🙄
Silas: As I’ve stated before, I don’t do anything to have acquired fans but I appreciate the adoration as well as their willingness to go off the deep end with me. I didn’t realize how much people enjoyed my story until a reader ordered the super fan box for the special edition and said she’d wanted to volunteer as my prisoner. Starting to wonder if she’s just as insane as I am but I like it.
Tori: Uh I’m pretty sure she was being sarcastic. No one wants to actually be your prisoner after what they’ve seen you do to Lia, are you nuts?
Silas: You’d be surprised what people are into. And I can’t say no to someone wanting to willingly indulge in pain.
Tori: ANYWAY, thanks for taking the time to chat with us a bit. I’m sure you’re soooo busy despite the fact that your story is complete.
Silas: A billionaire’s work is never done, as I do have a special edition pre-order to promote. Besides, I’m also currently hosting watch parties of the second season of Last Bride Standing. I have to say, agitating Caesar has become a new hobby that I’ve grown to enjoy. 😏
Tori: Jesus, please don’t—
crashing sounds in the distance with a brief scuffle before Caesar appears
Tori: sigh Mention Caesar. 😒
Caesar: Well, well, well. What do we have here? A little interview that I wasn’t invited to? How fucking rude.
Silas: Probably because my special edition has nothing to do with you—
Caesar: Fuck off, Arnett. I don’t think I was talking to you. turns back to me and points to Silas And why is this asshole getting an interview anyway? His story is complete and he’s already fucking infiltrating mine. And you keep saying there’s no fucking favoritism. 😠
Silas: gestures to him See? Endless entertainment because he’s always hostile for no reason. 😏 I know you feel inferior in presence but no need to be worked up about it. I make you a billionaire and this is how you behave?
Caesar: I’ll show you inferior, you arrogant fuck—
Tori: 🙄 Caesar, please. 😑First, why would you be invited? You’re not even in his books. And the point of this interview is to promote his special edition, which is on pre-order. 🤨 Read the fucking room.
Caesar: ignores what I said I thought it was weird that you had my document open and wasn’t working in it despite the fact that I have four bitches hanging over [redacted] with no action happening afterward. Should’ve known you were wasting time with this asshole.
Silas: chuckles I make her more money than you, so I don’t think it can be considered as ✌️wasting time. ✌️
Caesar: 😠Fuck off, Arnett. 😠turns to me Wrap this shit up. I have people to eliminate. turns to you And make sure you all are tuned into season two of Last Bride Standing on January 26th, granted that Creator stops fucking around with Silas and gets filming wrapped up in time.
Tori: Okay, Caesar, Jesus. Byeeee, see you in a bit. 🙄
Caesar grumbles about Silas being a billionaire asshole but finally leaves
Tori: Anyway, thanks again Silas. I hope the rest of your special edition pre-order period goes well!
Silas: Thank you for having me. And who knows: if a certain pre-order goal is reached, maybe there will be a third book or novella in the future.
Tori: I guess we’ll see! Until next time, folks. This is Tori Sullivan with Delusional Author Network signing off!
Yeah…so that was…something LMAO. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this fun little idea I had. The pre-order for Silas’s special edition is live on my website and will be closing on January 31st. Once it closes, you won’t be able to order this special edition anymore. Be sure to get it before the pre-order closes and/or before the copies run out! Until next time!
